Sift
Privacy Policy
Effective August 11, 2026
Sift is a daily edition app operated by Yash Totale (“we,” “us”). It’s available as a mobile app (iOS and Android) and as a web app at sift.totale.me. This policy explains what information Sift collects, how we use it, and the choices you have; it covers both, and where a practice applies to only one, we say so. Questions? Email support@totale.me.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign in with Google — or, in the mobile app, with Apple — we receive your email address, your name (if the provider shares it), and a unique account identifier. If you use Sign in with Apple’s “Hide My Email,” we receive a private relay address instead of your real email.
- Your preferences. The sections you choose and the YouTube channels and podcasts you follow, so we can build your daily edition.
- Content you save. The articles, videos, and podcast episodes you save for later, so we can keep them in your library.
- Device and browser storage. We store data on your device and in your browser to keep you signed in and remember preferences, such as your chosen podcast app. This stays on your device and isn’t used to track you.
- Notifications (mobile app only). If you enable notifications, a device push token so we can send the once-a-day “new edition” notification.
- Diagnostics. Crash reports, error logs, and app-performance data that help us diagnose problems. Sift includes no analytics or advertising SDKs.
- Feedback and support. When you send feedback or contact support, the message you write and any screenshot you attach are sent to Sentry. If you’re signed in, your feedback is linked to your account, including your email; if you’re signed out, you can add an optional reply email so we can respond.
How we use your information
We use the information above to:
- build and personalize your daily edition and remember your preferences;
- keep what you save for later in your library;
- sign you in and keep your account secure;
- send the daily edition notification, if you’ve enabled it (mobile app);
- diagnose crashes and improve reliability; and
- protect Sift and its users against abuse.
We do not sell your information, show you ads, or track you across other apps or websites.
Service providers
We share information with providers that operate Sift on our behalf, under their own privacy and security terms:
- Google Firebase — sign-in, database, hosting, and notification delivery.
- Apple (mobile app only) — Sign in with Apple.
- Sentry — crash and error reporting, plus feedback and support messages.
- Expo (EAS) (mobile app only) — push notification delivery, performance metrics, and app updates.
Content from other services
Sift shows YouTube videos from the channels you follow and details about episodes from the podcasts you follow, such as titles, artwork, and links. Your use of YouTube content is governed by YouTube’s own terms and privacy policy; podcasts open in the app or website you choose.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your account data until you delete your account. You can delete your account at any time in Sift under Account → Delete Account. Deletion permanently removes your data from our systems and, when you delete in the iOS app with Sign in with Apple, revokes Sift’s access to your Apple ID. See Delete Your Account for the full steps and what is removed. Diagnostic data held by our providers is retained for their standard periods.
Children
Sift is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Security
We rely on Google Firebase’s infrastructure and industry-standard measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the effective date above and, for material changes, provide notice in Sift.
